about 3 years. I come from The Great White Northern Minnesota region, and that is where I got my start in radio. In ten years, I migrated all over, from Wisconsin, to Colorado, and back to Minnesota, and eventually to here, in Rapid City.
I will try to identify the albums i RESPECT the most. Here goes:
The Beatles, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Led Zeppelin I , Rolling Stones Tattoo You, Bob Dylan Nashville Skyline, Johnny Cash Live at Folsom Prison, Van Halen I, Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Velvet Underground and Nico, and Neil Young Harvest. Can't forget Cheap Trick at Budokan and Pearl Jam's Ten.
I was raised near St. Paul, Minnesota in a town called Shoreview. Like a lot of Minnesota towns, there were lakes everywhere! I grew up with two older brothers, and when we weren’t in school, we spent our time swimming in the lake or playing hockey on the lake, depending on the season. I was the starting goalie for my high school soccer team (yep…nobody came to watch soccer games) and was a varsity downhill skier as well (nobody came to watch that either).
With the help of my oldest brother’s massive mixed tape library, I got into music I would have otherwise never heard, before I was even a teenager. I got into making music when I was about 13, and I was singing in a band (we called ourselves “Lunacy”) by the time I was 16. We did pretty well considering how young we were, playing Minneapolis’ legendary 1st Avenue several times!
I went to Brown Institute in Minneapolis for a brief education in radio. Before I was out of school, I landed a job WAY up north, in Brainerd, MN. I traveled 5 hours roundtrip every weekend so I could go on the air Saturday nights 7 to midnight, and Sunday mornings 5-10am!! I didn’t get much sleep in between shifts, but I didn’t care…I just wanted to be a D.J.! That’s how it all started.
I have a beautiful woman in my life. The weather in the Hills is almost as beautiful as her.
I still get paid to talk into a microphone. The preceeding was a brief and sanitized caption of my life. It reveals very little and that is good. Thanks for listening!!!
